Using HIIT as Part of Your Wedding Day Preparation

Congratulations on your engagement! Now that wedding planning is in full swing, you’ve probably got #sweatingforthewedding on your mind. Your wedding day is no doubt one of the biggest days of your life, so you’re going to want to look and feel your best on your big day. Between fitting in your dream wedding dress to being ready for the endless number of photos that will be taken, Brides feel an enormous amount of pressure to look good on their wedding day.

If you’re feeling pressure to tone up and shed some weight, you’re not alone. 90% of brides hope to shed extra pounds before they get married. Many turn to crash dieting as a means for intense weight loss in hopes of getting their ideal bride body. These diets aren’t safe for your health, and rarely work the way they are supposed to.

For most brides, the goal is to tighten, tone and trim the fat. Strapless dresses are very popular, so most brides want to focus on arms, back and shoulders. Many aim to lose anywhere from 10-30 pounds before the big day.

So, how do you go about safely losing weight for your wedding day?

  • Don’t wait until the last minute. The sooner you start to make lifestyle changes, the better. Ideally, you want to reach your goal within 4 weeks of your wedding (just in time for final dress fittings)

  • Set realistic short-term goals. Success doesn’t have to involve the scale. Maybe your goal is to run a 5k or walking every day at lunch

  • Add high intensity training (also known as HIIT) to your workout plan!

What is HIIT?

HIIT training is perfect for the busy bride. This type of training consists of short bursts of intense exercise mixed in with small rests. These workouts are shorter in length and contain a mix of cardio and weight training/body weight movements. Often times, this kind of training can help you lose weight more effectively than longer gym sessions

The high-intensity intervals help push your body to its metabolic limits, while the rest period allows you to catch your breath. High intensity exercise is known to burn quite a lot more calories than low-intensity exercise. Ultimately, this means higher fat loss and a happier bride-to-be. What’s great about HIIT is that you burn more fat and calories in the 24 hours after the workout than you would a light and steady run.
