How to Keep your Summer Abs: 5 At-Home Core Exercises

Although summer is long gone and your appearances at the pool or beach have dwindled; it doesn’t mean you have to let your summer abs go. Try these five tough core exercises that you can do at home to keep your summer physique.

Spiderman Plank Crunch

Take this plank crunch combo as if you were a superhero. Start in a plank position, then bring your right knee towards your right elbow, return to the plank. Then bring your left knee forward to your left elbow and return; this constitutes as one rep. After ten reps, you’ll have a complete core workout that targets those hard to work oblique muscles.

Bicycle Crunch

If you have sculpted abs, you’ve probably done plenty of bicycle crunches. Here’s a quick reminder of how to do them. Lie on your back with your hands behind your head, bring your right elbow towards your left knee, then switch sides bringing your left elbow to your right knee. Hold the crunch for a two count to intensify your crunch.

Cross Crunch

Lie on your back with your arms and legs spread wide; imagine your body forming an “X.” Keep your arms and legs straight, then bring your right hand towards your left foot. Switch sides and bring your left arm towards your right foot. Make sure that you lift your head, neck, and shoulders off the ground with each rep. Complete ten reps.

Lie flat on your back with your legs and arms stretched out. Bring your hands and your legs up so that you form a ‘V’ above your torso. Ten reps at a time will help keep those abs in shape.

Side Plank Hold

Begin in a plank position on your hands with your abs engaged. Slowly rotate your body to the right so that all of your weight is on your right palm. Keep your core engaged and reach for the sky and hold for 30 seconds. Slowly rotate back to your plank position and rotate and reach to your left. Hold for 30 seconds. This is also a great upper body workout.

Combine these into a HIIT workout

If you combine these into a FIT36® style HIIT workout at least once a week, your core will be rock solid all year round. That will free up your spring to work on getting those calves looking tight!
