Earth Day is April 22nd and we want you to go beyond a simple post on your social channels.
Whether we are celebrating peace or protecting our environment, Earth Day is a great time to get outside and appreciate the beauty in our own backyard. Just like our workouts at Fit36, we love doing things in groups and with friends, so start making plans to impact our planet in a big way this year.
Here are a few ways you can get out, connect with others, and celebrate Earth Day this year:
Gather a few friends and volunteer somewhere planting trees, working on neighborhood hiking trails or cleaning up a city community garden. These will get you outside and doing good for your body and soul.
- Park your car for the day
Reduce your carbon footprint by parking your car for the day and walking or biking to work, your friend’s house, to the store etc. If you want to make a party out of it, get a group of friends (or your workout buddies at Fit36) and go for a great evening or weekend ride together.
- Commit to reducing plastic
We know we are water-guzzlers but there are too many great reusable water bottles for us to be using disposable plastic water bottles. 2018 is the year to end plastic pollution (learn more at the EARTHDAY 2018 site) so let’s work together and commit to reducing the amount of disposable plastics we use.
- Get a great “Pick Up Line”
Gather your friends together to pick up trash in your neighborhoods and parks. You don’t have to go far to find trash that needs to be collected. After a few hours of making our planet more beautiful, head over to grab a beer or lunch together.
- Take a hike
With the weather finally cooperating, it is time to get outside and get hiking. Whether you have incredible peaks to tackle or beautiful park trails, find some new trails to explore. Be sure to pack out any trash you bring in or find along the way.
Whether you take one of these suggestions, find one at the official Earth Day website, or come up with one of your own, we’d love to hear from you and have you share your ideas, activities, and photos with us. Jump over to our social media channels or tag us @Fit36. Let’s all band together and make this day one that goes beyond a trite Instagram post and actually honors our planet and its environment in peace. Happy Earth Day!
